<p>In reality, we’d all like to be able to scoff the towering sandwiches that feature on any episode of Scooby Doo, but of course, that’s not only gluttony at its worse, it’s probably a bad idea since Shaggy and Scooby tend to favour the hottest chilli’s and peppers (makes my eyes water merely watching them being eaten). </p>
<p><strong>LEAN SANDWICHES </strong></p>
<p>If, like me, you’re tired of spreading peanut butter, jam or cheese on your sandwiches then I have got some mouth-watering alternatives that not only taste delightful, but can address many aspects of your lifestyle and overall health including brain-food, hangover cure, watching your waistline or building a strong lean body. </p>
<p><strong>HANGOVER SANDWICH CURE</strong></p>
<p>Feeling tired and listless? Well, why not try a multi-grain (seeded) bagel instead of bread for some serious quality carbs that will give your rundown body a boost. Inside your bagel, you can use some chicken liver pate, which helps combat tiredness thanks to its high content of vitamins A, K and B and iron. Add some lettuce, red onions and cucumber to provide vitamin C. </p>
<p>Suffering from a hangover? Try rye bread – the high fibre content will help to mobilise those nasty toxins through your body. Use bacon and hard-boiled eggs for hunger-beating protein and some spinach (zinc) to help protect your liver from drink-related damage.  </p>
<p>For those of us who need to boost our brainpower, we turn to wholemeal pitta bread, filled with salmon, watercress and mayonnaise. Oily fish are always a safe bet when it comes to a balanced diet – they contain omega 3 fatty acids which can give the brain a fine tune-up. Watercress contains high levels of iron, calcium and vitamins C and A. The egg yolks in high quality mayonnaise can actually improve your memory and enable you to think more clearly; perfect if you have an important meeting or presentation straight after lunch.  </p>
<p>A final tip for weight loss (one we could all use a little help with!) Try using a flatbread wrap, filling it with bacon, avocado and crème fraiche. Sound weird? Maybe, but it tastes great. The bacon will ward off hunger and add protein to your meal, whilst avocado contains manganese which should help to mobilise fat and control your blood sugar levels.  </p>
<p>So, the next time you find you’ve piled on a metric tonne of your favourite cheese between two king-sized doorstops of bread, take a minute to contemplate these delicious alternatives. Better still, take control of the shopping trolley and start gathering a variety of delicious fillings to try out at home. Other ideas include rocket, red onions, tomatoes, stilton and roast beef slices. Delicious! </p>
